You can feel helpless when your little one has a cold. Babies and toddlers are too young for medicine so what do you do? These must-have items for sick babies and toddlers can help relieve their symptoms.
7 items for sick babies and toddlers
Epson Salt
Epson salt is known as a natural remedy for many ailments. Soaking in an Epson salt bath will help draw out toxins. Which can help shorten the length of their cold. Add 1/2 cup of Epson salt to their bath and have them soak for at least 15-20 minutes.
Little Colds Honey Pops
Little Colds Honey Pops are great for soothing sore throats and helps with a cough. Your little one will think they are getting a treat when you hand them one of these. These pops are made with real honey and they don’t have artificial preservatives.
Humidifier
A humidifier puts more moisture into the air which can help your little one breathe better when they have a stuffy nose. This is really helpful to run in the kid’s bedroom at night. Hopefully, it will help clear their stuffy noses helping them sleep better. Adding extra moisture in the air may also help calm a coughing fit.
Saline Spray/Drops
Saline Drops can help your little one breathe better by relieving their runny, stuffy nose. These drops are non-medicated so you don’t have to worry about any side effects. Saline drops are also safe to use on a newborn.
I prefer the drops because my kids don’t like having anything sprayed in the nose. I usually wait until they are asleep to put some drops in their nose. They usually resist when they are awake. With the saline
Boogie Wipes
Boogie wipes are amazing for the constant flow of snot that comes out of your little ones nose when they are sick. When your little one has a runny nose it seems like the flow of snot will never end.
The Boogie wipes are moisturized and help soothe the nose area rather than rubbing it raw. So you don’t have to worry about irritating the area and making another problem to deal with.
These wipes are also great at cleaning dry crusted snot. Boogie wipes are more expensive than a box of tissues but they are worth it.
Nasal Aspirator
Getting a good nasal aspirator is definitely worth the extra few dollars. I don’t like bulb nasal aspirator. From my experience, it never works. I recommend The Snotsucker. It is amazing at unclogging your little one’s nose.
You have probably heard of the Nose Frida but the Snotsucker is so much better because you don’t have to pay for filters. All you have to do is put some toilet paper or tissue paper in it and your good to go.
Forehead and Ear Thermometer
A forehead and ear thermometer can make taking your little one’s temperature so much easier. Taking your little one’s temperature is a difficult task. They are way too small to keep a thermometer under their tongue. And there is no way I am sticking anything up their butt!
I’ve tried under the armpit but they usually don’t stay still long enough for the reading to finish. When using the forehead and ear thermometer snuggle your little one close, making taking their temperature easier.
Surviving a Cold
The worst part of a cold for my kids is when they have stuffy noses. It’s the worst when they can’t breathe. Especially at night. They can’t sleep because of it and they’re miserable, therefore I don’t sleep and I’m miserable.
It’s also never fun seeing your little one sick. You can feel helpless because there is no medication to give them. However, these must-have items for sick babies and toddlers can help make your little ones feel somewhat better and hopefully help them rest so you can rest too.
How do you help to make your little one feel better when they are sick? Let me know in the comments!
