Here are some indoor activities for kids to keep them entertained. We are living in strange times right now. We are being asked to distance ourselves from others and to stay at home.

Also, most of our kids have an extended Spring Break that could last up to six weeks or longer. During this time it’s difficult keeping the kids entertained. I know my kids can only watch so many hours of YouTube before they start complaining about being bored!

If you are looking for ways to keep your kids entertained, I have created a list of 10 indoor activities for kids.

Fun indoor kids activities. Keep the kids entertained while being stuck inside. Keep the kids entertained with these 10 indoor boredom busters.

10 Indoor Activities For Kids

Make Slime

DIY slime is a popular activity to do these days and it’s easy to make. You will most likely already have everything you need to make slime at home.

A simple recipe is

  • 1/2 cup Elmer’s Glue
  • 1t baking soda
  • 2T Contact Solution
  • Food Coloring

First, mix the baking soda and contact solution together in a small bowl. Mix until the baking soda dissolves. Next, add the glue to another container and mix in a few drops of food coloring. Then add the baking soda mixture to the glue and mix until the slime comes together.

If the slime is too sticky add more contact solution until you get the right consistency.

It doesn’t take long to make the slime. But if you are lucky your kids will play with it for a few minutes hours:)

Make Play Dough

Have you and your kids ever made your own play-doh? It’s a fun activity to make your own. And when you’re done making it you get to spend hours playing with it. The Best Ideas for Kids have an easy recipe for making your own playdough at home.

To make your own playdough you’ll need these basic ingredients:

  • flour
  • salt
  • cooking oil
  • cream of tartar
  • water
  • food coloring

Play with Plastic Cups

If you have extra Solo cups sitting around turn them into building blocks. Use these to build towers, walls, and pyramids. The best part is knocking them down and starting all over again!

Camp in your Living Room

Pitch a tent in your living room. Of course, if it’s warm out and you have a backyard you could pitch your tent outside. But it’s not every day you get to go camping in the living room.

My kids love it when we put the tent up in our living room. It’s something different and exciting.

We blew up our air mattress and all stay the night in it. Also, we roasted marshmallows on our stovetop. Though we were indoors it still felt like we were camping.

Blow Up an Air mattress

If you don’t want to set up a tent indoors fill up an air mattress. My kids had a ton of fun playing on an air mattress. They liked to bounce on it, pretend it was a pool to swim in. They even used it as a slide.

Using an air mattress isn’t something we usually do indoors. It was something new and different. So I think that’s why my kids liked playing with it.

Build a Fort

Grab a bunch of blankets, pillows, chairs, and cushions and help your kids build a fort. Or if they are able to let them build one for themselves. I remember spending hours as a kid making and playing in blanket forts that I have made.

You can also try different building materials, like boxes. Box forts are more stable and don’t fall down and easily as a blanket fort. But you’ll probably need a lot more space.

Have a Carnival

The following Carnival games are easy to set up. Also, you will most likely have everything you need to recreate these Carnival games at home.

Balloon Pop

Blow up some balloons and tape them to a piece of cardboard. Then hang the cardboard up on the wall. Make sure the height you hang it at is appropriate for your kids. The only other item you will need is a dart for the kids to throw to try and pop the balloons.

Ball Toss

Grab a few containers that you have around the house. It could be buckets, pans, or even paper bags. Then get some tennis balls and other balls with a similar size.

Knockdown the Can or Bottles

Stack cans or bottles on top of a stool or low table. If the bottles have lids fill each of them with a little water to make it more challenging to knock down the bottles. Go you use a ball or a bean bag to try and knock the bottles or can down.

Bean bag toss

If you don’t have a bean bag you could add a cup of beans to a sock and tie off the top to make one. Then cut different sized holes into a piece of cardboard. Then lean the piece of cardboard on a chair or against a wall.

The kids could win prizes for each game. You can use snacks or maybe a sweet treat for the prizes.

Build a Volcano

You’ll most likely have everything you need for this activity in your kitchen.

  • Vinegar
  • Water
  • Baking Soda
  • Dish Soap
  • Food Coloring

You don’t really need to build a volcano to have fun with this activity. A glass cup will do. Or you could use the playdough from above and build a volcano around a glass cup.

Build a Marshmallow Sculpture

All you’ll need for this activity are mini marshmallows and toothpicks. The challenging part will be stopping the kids from eating all the marshmallows. Before they have built anything. A few ideas the kids could build are animals, a bridge, or a tower.

Create an Obstacle Course

You can use things around the house to build an obstacle course. Chairs could be used for kids to crawl under. A stack of pillows can be used for kids to jump over. You can even you masking tape or leftover birthday streamers to create a laser obstacle in the hall.

Boredom Buster Indoor Activities

Trying to keep the kids indoors and away from others can be difficult. To keep them entertained try doing something different that you wouldn’t normally do. Like camping in the living room or creating an indoor carnival.

I hope you enjoyed these indoor activities for kids’ ideas. Let me know which one is your favorite in the comments below:)
