Here are some easy tips for no-prep Elf on The Shelf inspiration. It can be exhausting coming up with new and creative ways for finding the Elf. These ideas are easy to set up and perfect for those early mornings when you have to make a quick move!
Our friends gifted our family an Elf on the Shelf. My daughter was familiar with it from watching YouTube videos. But I didn’t know anything about Elf on the Shelf. So I never thought about getting one for our family.
The first night we had it I totally forgot and didn’t move the thing. Unfortunately, my daughter didn’t forget. She woke up excited to find the Elf and was disappointed to find Elfie unmoved.
I committed a major parenting fail! She said she doesn’t believe in the Elf and thinks the parents move it. I ruined the magic of Christmas because of that dang Elf!
I don’t know if she forgot about the first night. But if she didn’t forget at least she still plays along. And eagerly awaits for the Elf to arrive on December 1st and wakes up every morning excited to find Elfie.
What is Elf of the Shelf
The Elf on the Shelf is one of Santa’s spies. It’s sent from the North pole to help Santa manage his nice or naughty lists. Each day the Elf watches the children and at night reports back their behavior to Santa.
Rules of Elf on the Shelf
- Don’t touch the Elf or else it will lose its magic
- The Elf can’t move when anyone is around.
- The Elf moves while everyone is asleep
- You must name your Elf
- The Elf leaves on Christmas Eve
Elf on the Shelf Inspiration
Elfie comes back to visit us on December 1st. This year he got suck in the blinds trying to come back.
Elfie is just chillin on Rudolph today. This was a last-minute idea. But it didn’t take me long to make. All you need to make Rudolph is two toilet paper rolls. A red pom pom, a brown pipe cleaner, toothpicks for the legs, and a sharpie for the eyes.
I heard my daughter say she wanted Elfie to bring an activity the day before. So I printed out letters for her and her brother to fill out. Then we will send the letters to Santa Claus. He also brought a decoding activity that is not in the picture.
My kids watch YouTube and know all about the Fortnite dances. Especially the floss. I found this inspiration on Pinterest. If your kids know how to do the floss then they will get a kick out of this. All you have to do is wrap your Elf in floss and leave a little note.
Elfie was a little homesick for the North Pole. So he decided to wrap himself in a blanket and spent the day in the Refridgerator. The cool air reminded him of home. Wrap him up in a small towel and place him somewhere in the fridge.
What to say if the Elf doesn’t move
It’s bound to happen. Sometimes we run out of ideas for the Elf. Depending on when the Elf arrives there are a lot of days where you have to be creative with it. Sometimes you plan on moving the Elf at night before you go to bed or in the morning when you wake up and that doesn’t happen. I’ve been there on several occasions.
- He has a tummy ache from eating too much sugar. So he couldn’t move.
- There was a storm in the North Pole. So he couldn’t report back to Santa last night.
- I accidentally touched him before I went to bed. So he lost his magic until tomorrow.
- He really likes that spot and wanted to stay here for another day.
- He’s too tired and didn’t have enough energy to go to the North Pole last night. So he stayed in this spot to rest.
Have Fun with Your Elf
Elf on the Shelf can be easy or as complicated as you make it be. My kids are still young so they don’t expect too much from the Elf. They like running around our home looking for the Elf. There have been some days that they forget to find him. Most of these ideas were easy to do and not time-consuming.
Elf on the Shelf is a fun and easy tradition to start with your kids. They can look forward to their Elf returning every Christmas season. It might be stressful trying to remember to move their tiny little friend every night. But their joy in finding their Elf is worth it!
