80 Day Obsession – Things to Know

My first thought when I heard about 80 Day Obsession was there’s no way I can work out for an hour a day! And committing to it for 80 days? I didn’t have the confidence in myself to accept that challenge.

But I did challenge myself and I completed 80 Day Obsession! I made the commitment because I wanted to make a change. Losing weight, getting stronger, and sculpting my body was the goal. Also, I wanted to prove to myself that I could finish something.

What is 80 Day Obsession

80 Day Obsession is a Beachbody workout developed by Autumn Calabrese. It’s an 80-day program where you will be working out for about an hour a day. Six days a week. These workouts include strength training and cardio.

80 Day Obsession is a total body workout. You’ll be sculpting your whole body during an 80 day period. There are 80 workouts, a different one each day.

Though you’ll be getting a total body workout there is a lot of focus on the booty and legs. Prepare for it to hurt every time you sit down. In a good way of course;)

Beginners and 80 Day Obsession

I don’t recommend 80 Day Obsession for beginners. The workouts are intense! I haven’t worked out for over a year when I signed up for Beachbody.

I wanted to start with 80 Day Obsession when I first signed up for Beachbody. But an hour-long workout seemed too intense to start with. Also, I didn’t want to hurt myself and not be able to exercise.

So I decided to start with 21 Day Fix. These workouts are only 30 minutes long and are for beginners.

Another option would be to start with A Little Obsessed. It is a five-day plan to get you familiar with the moves from 80 Day Obsession.

Autumn’s programs do have a modifier. So you do have that option to follow if some of the moves are too hard. But I recommend starting with 21 Day Fix and working up to 80 Day Obsession.

Materials You’ll Need for 80 Day Obsession

You will need specific equipment for doing 80 Day Obsession. Materials required are:

You can buy these items online from the Beachbody store. Or if you purchase a challenge pack you’ll get the loops and sliders along with a month’s supply of Shakeology or Beachbody Performance.

The most expensive equipment you will need is hand weights. Having a variety of sizes will challenge you more. Especially as you get stronger.

The weights I used ranged from 5 to 15 pounds. I also have 1 35 pound weight that I used for leg exercises. But I do wish I had heavier weights like 20 and 25s.

The foam roller is not necessary to complete the program. But it is nice to have. Your muscles will be sore and it will feel good to roll out the soreness with the foam roller.

I had never used resistance loops and strength slides before. So those were a challenge to get used to. The loops would slide and twist up a lot in the beginning. But you’ll figure out the best position after a few tries. If the loops keep rolling up you may need a stronger band.

The strength slides were a challenge for me in the beginning. But towards the end of 80 days, I was able to keep up with the exercises.

Foods to avoid would be processed foods. Also, you should avoid sugar and alcohol.

80-Day Obsession has a Timed-Nutrition meal plan to go along with the program. Timed-Nutrition means eating enough of the right foods at a particular time of the day. Basically, when you eat will be based on what time you work out.

The same containers used for Ultimate Portion Fix are used with this meal plan. Your weight loss goals and how much you weigh will depend on how much you eat.

What you eat on the program is going to fuel your body while doing this intense workout program.

Make sure to meal prep your food. It will help you have healthy food ready to eat.

Meal Plan for 80 Day Obsession

80 Day Obsession meal plan recommends Timed-Nutrition. You’ll eat balanced meals of carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats every 2-3 hours. This ensures that your muscles are getting the right nutrition at the right time.

Eating the right foods at the right times is an important part of the 80 Day Obsession meal plan. Timed-Nutrition helps promote muscle growth, recovery, and improved performance.

80 Day Obsession Supplements

The supplements suggested are pre-workout, workout, and post-workout supplements.

The pre-workout supplement is Energize which helps to improve exercise performance.

Hydrate is a workout supplement that helps to replace electrolytes lost through sweat. You drink this during your workout.

The post-workout supplement is Recover. Which gets protein to your muscles to help your body recover from all the hard work it’s doing.

Shakeology is also recommended. It’s a superfood protein shake that comes in several delicious flavors. Shakeology helps provide you with the nutrition you need to get your best results from 80 Day Obsession. My favorite flavor is Cafe Latte.

Using these supplements can help give you more energy and recover faster. They are also written into the Timed Nutrition Plan. The supplements are necessary to complete the program but they are helpful.

Weight Loss and 80 Day Obsession

You can lose weight by working out with the 80 Day Obsession program. But what you eat will determine how much you lose. You can’t do the workout and eat junk all day long. You will most likely not see the scale move much if you don’t eat a healthy diet.

Autumn has a nutrition program called Timed Nutrition that goes along with 80 Day Obsession. Where you’ll eat certain foods at certain times based on when you workout.

Timed nutrition helps maximize energy. It also creates a healthy fat loss and aids in muscle recovery. If you choose to follow this nutrition program you will be portioning your food with the containers she recommends.

The number of contains you eat will depend on how many calories you need each day.

What I liked about the Program

I really liked how each day the workouts varied. You do the same moves but it changes each week because of the number of reps and sets you do each time.

I don’t like doing the same workout over and over again. Though you are doing moves that you did last week it doesn’t feel like the same workout. Because the number of sets is different each week.

Also, the workout is broken up into three phases so you do each phase for four weeks. Then you move on to the next phase which is completely different. You’ll do new moves in each of the phases.

I like how Autumn does the exercises with you. She doesn’t stand around telling you what to do. She is actually doing the workout with you. It’s always nice when the instructor feels the same pain:)

Autumn is also very motivating. I love how she encourages you to keep pushing yourself. I have to stop myself from pausing the video and writing down quotes.

Another thing I liked about the program is seeing the cast struggle from time to time. It made me feel like I wasn’t alone in the fact that the program is hard.

The Results

My results were:

Second round 2022

  • 15 pound lost
  • 14.5 inches lose all around my body

First-round in 2019

  • 11 pounds lost
  • 6.75 inches lost all around my body

The first month of 80 Day Obsession is when I lost the most weight and inches, The second was discouraging because I only lost 1 one. Then the last month of the program I lost 4 more pounds.

I followed the 80 Day Obsession food list and didn’t follow timed nutrition to a T. But I stayed committed to eating only what was on the list. And I had no added sugars or alcohol the whole 80 Days, The only sugar that I did have was from Shakeology and Energize.

Also, I had a lot of non-scale victories!

I felt stronger. I was able to do a lot of the exercises all the way through without modification toward the end of the program. Also, it felt amazing completing the program. So doing 80 Day Obsession is totally worth it!

Another thing to mention is I love my butt! I have always had a flat butt. Now it has a nice round shape to it. I may be a little obsessed but every time I pass a mirror I stop to admire it:)

And I can see my abs! I don’t have a 6 pack yet but I’m well on my way to getting a more defined core.

Why You Should Try 80 Day Obsession

If you want to sculpt your body, get stronger, and feel good then you need to try 80 Day Obsession. It’s a great workout! If you make the commitment to do all the exercises and eat the proper food you will see results.
